National chocolate covered anything dayAnything? Really A.n.y-thing? Ok I’m in! It does remind me of the Vicar of Dibley chocolate fondue scene –https://www.facebook.com/Dawnfrenchfan/videos/1522525751138483 Who doesn’t love a chocolate fountain? And why on earth can’t we all just stick our head into one at least once in our lives.
Strawberries and marshmallows are the popular choice, but have you seen the chocolate covered chickpeas? Oh they are really quite addictive, I do favour an orange dipped in chocolate which makes for a more superior and cost effective winter alternative to strawberries. Nuts and raisins work too as do pretzels. I prefer toffee on my apples to chocolate but each to there own.
The winner for me has got to be the humble rice crispy and that, my dear friend is how I will be marking this very auspicious day.
Ingredient and Method
Grease a baking tray and lay on baking paper.
100g butter melt, Mars bars and 11/2 tablespoons golden syrup. Combine in a heat proof bowl over a pan of water.
Once the mix is mostly melted add 150g rice crispies. Stir to ensure a good coating.
Then pour into your baking tray.
Squish the mix into the tray. Yes squish, what you don’t have a squisher? Ok put it on your Christmas wish list, In the mean time you can squish with the back of a metal spoon or a potato masher/squisher.
Melt 350g chocolate – I prefer dark and pour over the crispy mix.
If you want to do some decorative swirly patterns melt 50g white chocolate then drizzle over the mix. Try to do this before the first lot of chocolate has set, get a cocktail stick or skewer and drag it over to make pretty patterns.
Pop into the fridge and chill till set.
Give your epic creation 10 minutes out of the fridge before you cut and portion to share (or not)!
Happy National Cover chocolate in anything day! Let us know in the comments what you’ve decided to cover in chocolate!
Warmest wishes
